Helihack x Wild Restoration is an initiative aimed at clearing invasive pine species above Greyton in the Riviersonderend Nature Reserve.
They employ foot "soldiers" equipped with chainsaws and utilize a helicopter to drop various teams at high-altitude spots, enabling them to clear the most hard-to-reach trees.
The goal is to fell these trees so that a naturally occurring fire can burn them, along with any additional saplings. Subsequently, the fire-hardy fynbos of the area will have the opportunity to restore itself to its natural state.
